GEOGRAPHY

Our overall aim in this subject is to create awareness, understanding and a concern for the environment, both local and global.  Much geography is taught through Topic work.  Where possible we try to give children first hand experience of the different environments to enable them to develop an interest in their own surroundings and those close to them.  Where this is not possiblethey have opportunity to use a variety of media to develop an understanding, e.g. videos, photographs and the Internet.

In KS1 the children have opportunities to explore their immediate environment through observation and investigative activities.  They develop the use of simple geographical terms and have opportunities to recognise features on photographs, pictures and maps.

In KS2 the children develop a range of skills appropriate to geography.  They learn to be competent in the use of maps, atlases, photographs and fieldwork skills.  They have opportunities to increase their understanding of their own locality and that of others elsewhere in the UK and beyond.
