MUSIC

The school has an excellent selection of percussion instruments, six electronic keyboards and CD players in every classroom.  The PSA also purchased a digital piano with a PA system, which greatly enriches performances.

Our main aim in the teaching of music is to give the children access to the pleasure that music can give.  The lessons include listening to a wide range of music and appraising this.  The children compose their own pieces and evaluate them.  All pupils have the opportunity to learn recorders and in Years 3-6 they can opt to learn clarinet, flute or saxophone with our peripatetic woodwind teacher.

We have regular school concerts in which all pupils are involved.  At Christmas this takes a form of a large-scale drama performance.

In the Spring Term we hold an Eisteddfod.  This gives a platform for children, whose talents may not be academic or sporting, to show their skills.  It involves writing prose and poetry, painting, drawing and model making, in addition to the performance classes.

Music is an integral part of the day.  Every lesson begins with the whole class listening to a piece of music.  This helps them to relax and focus after all the excitement of playtime.  At the request of pupils we also have music at the beginning of lunchtime.

Mr Hughes is our Music Co-ordinator and an experienced Music Practitioner.  All pupils in Key Stage 2 receive specialist Music Tuition and have a 45 minute lesson each week, covering a range of exciting musical topics.
